Here's the official description of what I'll be doing at the Florida Writers Association conference taking place October 23-25 this year:
Publishers are reducing costs across the board, including their publicity budgets for books. Chris Hamilton and Mary Ann de Stefano present a signature workshop that shows you the ropes of blogging, Facebook, and Twitter, as well as helping you use these tools together to increase your reach with readers. We’ll also show you how to use the FWA Network to keep in touch with your fellow FWA members and leverage their support and experience to make your writing and publishing journey more fruitful.
Actually, Chris is leading on this, and I'll do the part about the Florida Writers Association Network, which I manage. It's sorta kinda very much like the MAD about Words Lounge, except it's for FWA members only. These smaller networking sites serve a purpose. Perhaps you can make the biggies – Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In — work for you, but valuable connections and learning opportunities can found in these smaller, more intimate, and often friendlier venues.
Chris walks his talk about social media, and he writes an instructive blog about social media and other internet resources that even a technophobe can understand besides blogging about the upcoming conference.
