Chapbook in a Day

Transform your poems into a cohesive collection

What could be more challenging than writing poems and revising them for months if not years and then letting them loose in the world? Assembling them into a chapbook that flows, arcs, holds together and tells a story, that’s what.

In this workshop, Terry Godbey, who once won two chapbook contests within 24 hours, will share her tips on chapbook publishing, contests and markets, and arranging poems to best advantage.

Each participant should bring two sets of their 18 to 20 best poems not already published in a book.

Everyone will leave with two chapbooks of their own work, with suggested titles, as well as a better understanding of how to order poems. If you’ve been wanting to take your poems to the next level, this is your chance.

terry godbeyTerry Godbey’s poetry collection Beauty Lessons won the 2009 Quercus Review Poetry Series Annual Book Award and will be published this fall. More than 100 of her poems have appeared in literary magazines such as Rattle, Poet Lore, CALYX Journal, Pearl, Rosebud, Crab Creek Review and The Florida Review. In 2006, her book Behind Every Door won Slipstream’s chapbook contest. She also won the 2008 Rita Dove Poetry Award and is a two-time Pushcart Prize nominee.
