Margarita Engle “All the Way to Havana”

Kick-off Hispanic Heritage Month by welcoming Award-winning author Margarita Engle and illustrator Mike Curato to the Chickasaw Branch of the Orlando Public Library.

“ALL THE WAY TO HAVANA” is a joyful celebration of the Cuban people and their resourceful innovation. Margarita Engle and Mike Curato will talk about their experiences of Cuba – Margarita is from Cuba, and Mike traveled to Havana to do visual research and bring Margarita’s story to life.

Margarita Engle is the Cuban-American author of many verse books, including the Newberry Honor Book “The Surrendor Tree”, the Charlotte Zolotow Award winner “Drum Dream Girl”, and the Walter Dean Myers Honor “Enchanted Air.” Her books have also received multiple Pura Belpre and Americas Awards as well as a Jane Addams Award, an International Reading Association Award, and many others. Margarita was just named the Young People’s Laureate by the Poetry Foundation.

Mike Curato is the author and illustrator of the “Little Elliot” series and has illustrated a number of other books for children, including “Worm Loves Worm.”
